My Role: Research, Script Writing, Recording, Video Editing
This is a video essay done for a class. It discusses the basic premise of what a Table Top Roleplaying Game is, a brief history of them. In addition, this video addresses player agency and why it is so important and does so well in tabletop roleplaying games.
PROCCESS
To get an intial idea for our projects, our professor had us identifiy 2 game terms among a large list and define them through at least one example and an academic source. I noticed there was a large connection between agency and table top games, so I chose to write about those terms.
After choosing to make a video agency in tabletop games, I moved onto the research phase where I looked into the origin of Tabletop games through a long source of different lists, including primary and secondary sources. While doing my research, I recorded the sources so I could later cite them in my script.
After completing my research and going through a few drafts, I moved onto the final draft of the script. Rather than writing it like a traditional paper, I wrote the script to be more casual as if I were talking or having a conversation with someone. This allowed for a video that was much more fluid.
I then used Audacity to record all the audio. I could then record myself in short bursts in one track. Afterwards, I could apply effects to make the audio sound clearer and cut out extraneous parts.
After recording the script, I looked for images of what I would be talking about, including pictures of the orignal products. I then used Adobe Premiere Pro to edit the video and apply effects to these photos so rather than static images, each would have some sort of movement or filter on them to engage the viewer more.
