My Role: Interviews, Research, Script Writing, Recording, Video Editing
This video was done for a research project and explores how people's self esteem is affected by over sexualization in games and how game designers can approach this problem. To further understand this concept, I interviewed several different people and compiled those results into a video.
PROCCESS
To start this project, our professor asked us to choose one of several topics to avatars which we would then have to interview people about. I chose to explore how oversexualization connected with avatars. I then drafted a concept with more specific ideas and a list of possible questions for interviews that could also be fleshed out.
After having my idea approved, I further developed the project through adding more questions, detailing already made ones and finding several more sources to back up my claims. I explained how each of the academic sources I chose backed up my thesis and fit into the narrative of the video.
After I completed an another round of research and completed my interview questions, I used them to inverview people in recorded sessions. I then took those videos, downloaded the transcripts of them and formatted them so I could better use them when writing my final script.
Using a combination of the research and interviews I did, I wrote a script that condensed all of this information. In addition using the research I did, I also added in some basic context of oversexualziation by brining up modern games that were shown throughout the video.
To record the script, I used audacity. This allowed me to control the volume of the recording and audio quality more easily to create an overall clearer listening experience.
Finally, I started locating and creating images to use thorughout the video. To edit everything, I used Adobe Premiere Pro. I then layered images and audio to create an immersive experience for the viewer.
